Zettle
Zettle, formerly iZettle, is a payments processing company founded in 2010 and based in Sweden. Today, Zettle is owned by PayPal and provides many PayPal features and integrations. Zettle makes modern point-of-sale (POS) products designed to simplify every workday. Users can take payments and track every sale, all in one place.
Now a member of the PayPal family, Zettle gives business owners the power to accept card, contactless and mobile payments, as well as organize inventory and analyze sales. You can use your PayPal details to sign up and link your accounts in minutes, so your earnings can be deposited directly into your PayPal account.
Zettle provides companies with a free card reader which plugs into tablets or phones, allowing businesses to run from mobile devices. It’s similar to the U.S. firm Square, which was founded by current Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey. However, Zettle was the first to develop the mobile POS technology to meet European privacy standards.
Zettle CEO Jacob de Geer recently said that the company is different to Square as it operates in separate regions. “We’re very European-focused. We are in totally different markets compared to Square… we are quite a different company,” he told CNBC in a TV interview last year. Their recent partnership with PayPal may set them up as a legitimate Square competitor.
