eToro

eToro is a large trading platform based in Tel Aviv with offices in Cyprus, the UK, Israel, the U.S., and Australia. They were founded in 2007 and quickly grew, allowing users to trade currency and commodities. They have since expanded to offer stocks and contract for difference (CFD), cryptocurrency, a mobile app, and a social component.

There’s been a whole host of new investment platforms popping up to challenge traditional brokers and eToro is one of those… But with a twist. They bill themselves  as a “social trading network,” allowing users to copy trading strategies of other traders whom they deem successful. Investors can trade currencies, commodities, indices and contract for difference (CFD) stocks online.

eToro’s largest presence is outside of the U.S. Recently, like many other online trading apps/brokerages, eToro found itself under regulatory scrutiny after rapidly adjusting its functions to preserve liquidity. In eToro’s case, they disallowed margin trading in cryptocurrency positions due to high volatility.
